The permit for Bhaktapur's center only needs to be bought once, and you can arrange for it to stay valid through the end of your Nepal visa. That means you can come back whenever you like. Shekhar explained so much about the city's culture and history while taking me around, and he was always there if I needed help. I felt at home as soon as I walked in. This is one of the nicest places I've stayed, and I'll definitely return to this beautiful city and lovely hostel.

In the evenings, travelers of all ages and from all over gather in the living room to share stories. Shekhar’s Shared Home has a welcoming, home-like feel, and Shekhar becomes more like a friend than a host. He gives free guided walks through Bhaktapur's historic alleys, pointing out hidden spots and sharing local food. Cleanliness can vary, though it’s about the same as other hostels. A lovely choice if you're traveling solo or want to get immersed in the city.

The rooms are basic and the toilets are shared. There’s hot water when gas is available. The kitchen has good equipment, though it and the toilets were a bit dirty. Shekhar's Shared Home is a friendly place to meet people, with plenty of guests staying for months and sharing experiences. Shekhar knows a lot and has lots of ideas for things to do, including ways to see a side of the city beyond a typical tourist visit.
