Hotel Suraj is right in central Birgunj, with tidy rooms and attached bathrooms that have hot and cold water. The restaurant is clean and hygienic, with halal meat and a wide range of vegetarian dishes. Service to the rooms was prompt and the hospitality warm. There’s also a game room, though only Non Nepali citizen can use it.

The rooms are clean, the food is good, and the property is well kept. You can book a room online, too. There aren’t many good hotels in Birgunj, and this is one of the few. They also have live music every weekend.

It’s improved from before, but still needs some work to compete with other hotels. A bed and breakfast option would help, as would tea and coffee in the room and bathroom basics like a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and razor. The bathroom also needs better lighting, especially around the mirror for shaving.

The location is the one real plus. My room wasn’t cleaned even after I left and asked room service to take care of it. There were too many mosquitoes, and staff didn’t replace the Good Knight refill even after I asked several times. They wouldn’t give even a complimentary bottle of water, and hot water wasn’t running. They kept making excuses instead of addressing the service problems. Weigh the pros and cons carefully before booking.

The place was quiet and peaceful, with no disturbance. The rooms and beds were comfortable, the carpeting on the floor was nice, and the hotel was quite clean. I liked the bar, too, with all kinds of drinks available. The food was really nice. I’d recommend it to anyone coming to Birgunj.
