Nagarkot Shangrila Resort

The room conditions were filthy, and I found the hotel dirty and unprofessional. I’ve attached photos and videos so others can see what it was like. Cleanliness and hygiene seemed to be completely overlooked. The place also appeared severely understaffed, with hardly any employees around. The young receptionist seemed untrained and inexperienced, and their foreign language skills were very weak. At check-in, I asked for a table knife and was given a huge kitchen knife. Once we’d gone upstairs, the receptionist ran after me to our room to take it back, saying knives weren’t allowed in rooms. I asked her to wait because I needed to use it first. She stayed outside our door for five minutes. While she waited, I explained that my father needed a minibar to keep his insulin, which was a critical medical necessity. There wasn’t one in the room. Later, she called to say bluntly that the hotel didn’t offer that service, and suggested we leave the medication in the kitchen fridge downstairs. The staff just stared at us, seeming clueless, with no real solution. Nothing changed until I threatened to call our tour agency and switch hotels. Just before we left, another young receptionist, apparently the only other worker around, came to our door carrying an old, broken fridge. We turned it down and left the hotel right away. It’s hard to see how a hotel in such a beautiful location could be left empty without customers, but after experiencing the terrible management, it was clear to me.

This is one of the best hotels or resorts I’ve stayed at so far. The hospitality, food, and room were excellent, and the sunrise from my room early in the morning was amazing. The view from the room was excellent too.

The sunrise was the best part of my one-night stay. I had a great time there.

The rooms are roomy, each with a balcony and facing forward. One of the top-range resorts in Nagarkot, and I'd definitely recommend it.
