Bruce Apartments

Tom made our family weekend in Akaroa feel special. He moved us to one of the premium apartments, lowered the price, and even let us check out late. The apartment was spotless, well kept, and had all the utilities we needed. We felt very comfortable, and we'd happily return to The Bruce. Thanks, Tom!

The room wasn't secure because the window latch was missing, though we found it in the coffee table drawer. There was mould in the shower, stained chairs, and bare patches in the carpet. Everything felt worn out and in need of attention. We only booked because our previous accommodation was full and we'd decided to stay another night in Akaroa, but we paid far more here. I might have called it disgusting, though perhaps that's too strong. At this price, inspect before staying. Next time I'd leave Akaroa rather than spend another night somewhere this abysmal.

The unit was modern and handy to local places, and we booked it at the last minute on New Year's Eve. We still enjoyed our stay, but there were some issues: ants everywhere when we woke the first morning, even though we hadn't left food out; a filthy, sticky rubbish-bin lid; grime at the bottom of the shower; and a sagging bed. We could also hear the pipes whenever another unit used a shower or something similar.

The upstairs bedrooms were roomy, with a shared bathroom, and the beds were very comfortable. The apartment is well equipped and in a great spot for families. You can walk to the eateries, cross the road to the wharf, or follow the lane to the lighthouse. A lovely place to stay in Akaroa.
