The receptionists were nice, but I didn’t feel comfortable or welcome as a newcomer because there were so many long-term guests. Nearly every night there was a party, and the noise carried on close to midnight. It might have been fine if people stayed in the lounge, but they didn’t, and things didn’t seem controlled. Someone also took food I’d labelled in the shared fridge. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very nice first hostel experience in NZ.
We slept really well in the good private rooms, and the staff were friendly. It’s a pretty good backpacker place. The location is the only small drawback, though it’s handy enough if you’re just passing through Auckland.
Mt Eden is a beautiful spot for this clean, spacious place, which has a cosy feel. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there’s a resident cat. Bus stops are across the road, and it’s a 10-minute walk to a supermarket. One of the best backpackers in Auckland.
I’ve stayed here quite a few times and it’s usually pretty good. The kitchen and dining room are fine, though often busy. Beds are clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms seem okay.
The place is so handy for the city, music gigs, walks up Mt Eden summitT and the village. On sunny days, try the hammocks outside. Everything was immaculately clean, from the rooms and bath facilities to the other shared areas. The vibe is relaxed, the staff incredibly helpful and welcoming, and they made sure I’d have a comfortable night, so I booked an extra one. This was my second stay in three weeks. Even Clyde the hostel cat gave me snuggles. I’d book again. From waiheke AKLD.
