I used to stay in room 304 at the back, facing the Auckland harbor bridge. I was living there when the Auckland international convention center caught fire. It was incredible, but scary too, because I really thought TVNZ was going to catch fire as well. That set them back, and not long after, covid happened. Auckland, along with the rest of New Zealand and the whole nation, went into lockdown. Now, seeing the Auckland convention center at night is incredible. Walking down Victoria Street and Nelson Street behind it, it really lights up Auckland central city. When those lights aren't on, including the sky tower, central Auckland looks more like a ghost town and really ugly.
