The ferry building is directly across the street, with shops, restaurants, and bars all around. It's a lively part of the CBD, though the hotel itself felt calm. Dinner at Advieh was a highlight: the cold-smoked Haku kingfish, duck leg shish, coastal lamb neck, and fun “minute” cocktails were all memorable. Service throughout was consistently warm and attentive. I also booked the in-room spa. Kathy gave me a 90-minute facial and massage, with just the right pressure and deep shoulder knots worked out. After weeks of travel, my skin felt completely refreshed. My one-night booking included early check-in and a room upgrade. The room was thoughtfully designed and felt calm and luxurious, with a separate coffee and tea cabinet with teapot, plush robes and slippers, a spacious shower, and a separate toilet room. Watching the automatic blinds rise to reveal the harbor was a lovely moment. This was easily one of the highlights of my time in Auckland, and I'd happily return.

Svetla, the concierge, is a walking encyclopedia of Auckland and was the person to ask for information, advice, and restaurant recommendations. The staff were friendly and helpful, and service was impeccable. The hotel is modern, has great amenities, and is in a perfect location with everything we needed. We've always enjoyed staying at Intercontinental hotels while traveling, but this one stood out even among them. Thanks to everyone who made our time here so memorable.

The room had amazing Auckland Harbour views, a comfortable bed, and thoughtful touches like complimentary bottled water. Our automatic upgrade wasn't available because it was Christmas, but we received bonus points instead and were happy with that. The club lounge was a peaceful break in the middle of a busy day. Its concierge was a wonderful hostess who treated us royally and was happy to help with anything. Everyone we met was delightful, friendly, and professional, and check-in was easy. Hearing a housekeeping staff member quietly sing Christmas songs made my day, I love Christmas. From arrival to departure, our short stay felt special. We were so well looked after that we were sorry to leave.

Cris made this stay for me. He was warm and professional, showed me around and took me to my room, and made sure I knew what the hotel offered. The location is handy for everything in central Auckland, and the views and thoughtful design add to the feeling of a city escape. There are 139 suites, so check-in feels fairly intimate. My room had a well-stocked bar and a good tea and coffee machine, and many suites look out over the waterfront or city, sometimes with harbour views. The restaurant upstairs has a distinctive Turkish style and a peaceful atmosphere. At the entrance, the concierge desk is right by the International Cruise Ship Terminal, which is very convenient for travellers. From arrival onward, the service was immaculate. The InterContinental Auckland is a five-star IHG property, and this visit made it easy to see why. A wonderful Auckland stay, five stars.

The hotel itself was nice, but the room change was frustrating. After joining a tour, I’d booked a few extra days on my own. They required me to check out and move rooms instead of letting me stay where I was. I’d booked a lower-level room without realizing it at the time, and offered to pay whatever the upgrade cost so I wouldn’t have to move. I felt like I was talking to a wall. They weren’t accommodating at all. Don’t expect them to think outside the box.
