Ranfurly Evergreen Motel

We ended up having to find somewhere else to stay at 8pm, just before an event and in an unfamiliar area. It was stressful, and avoidable. As two women in our 20s travelling to Auckland, we didn't feel safe or comfortable. The room and the general environment were in unacceptable condition, and when we raised concerns they were dismissed. We were told the circumstances meant we'd get a refund, but the promised money hasn't come through. Since then, it's been extremely difficult to get a response, with messages ignored. The whole experience felt unprofessional, unsafe, and deeply disappointing. I'd strongly advise others to reconsider staying here.

The room was in such poor shape that I can't list everything. There were bugs on the single beds, stains on the bathroom wall, scuffs on the floor, a leaking tap, and a broken electrical box. The door locks didn't line up. Walls had holes and obvious patches, wallpaper was peeling, and the curtains and vlances were stained. The floors hadn't been vacuumed or mopped. My daughter got a rash from the towels. For a family unit, having only one large plate and two side plates wasn't right. The dish sponge was absolutely filthy, and the toaster was dirty. There was no milk or anything else in the fridge, and the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash came in tiny tubes. The Wi-Fi had no password, which felt unsafe because anyone could hack into your device. I was so disappointed by the state of the room. I wouldn't stay again. Save your money.

The door had such a big gap that we had to wedge a chair against it to keep it shut, and it didn't feel safe. Hot water only worked as a dribble, otherwise the shower went cold. The living room smelled damp, and the heat pump leaked when set to cooling and was full of mould. Our bedding was stained and dirty. When we asked for replacements, the staff member was incredibly rude, although he did change it. The tea towel and sponge were dirty too, there was no dishwashing liquid, and we didn't have enough dishes or cutlery. The carpet had huge marks, some like dried vomit. The property would be much more enjoyable with some maintenance, especially new carpets, servicing the AC, and fixing door gaps.

The room had blood stains and no privacy, and the staff were horrible. They refused to help and didn't seem to think anything was wrong. We had to go elsewhere at 8pm on the night of a Hyrox race. We were told we'd get our money back because of the circumstances, but now they're ignoring our messages and won't issue the refund they promised. Liars. Unprofessional and disgusting. Stay clear of this place.
