Waipuna Hotel & Conference Centre

We came back for the last two nights of our trip after a great first stay. There were mini trains nearby, lots of birds around the reserve, and fish leaping in the lagoon. We also slept well and enjoyed a great breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful, though I wish I’d remembered their names so I could mention them. We first chose the place for its airport location. It was dark when we landed, and we didn’t want a long drive or the hassle of downtown parking. There’s plenty of free parking, and the lagoon made for a lovely walk. A wonderful spot, and we’ll definitely return.

The lagoon view was beautiful, and I’d stay again in a heartbeat. The beds were comfortable, the staff lovely, and the hotel food delicious. It also has a great gym and a tidy pool, and the whole place felt welcoming and well kept.

The hotel staff were wonderful, the restaurant was great, and our room was clean, spacious, and well equipped for dining in. We had a two-level room, though I can’t remember what it was called. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the rate was good, and we enjoyed the spa pool. We’d expected more of a hot tub, but it was still relaxing. There’s also a nice path from the hotel to the Panmure Basin walking trail, with lots of greenery, lawn, and birds near the estuary. We picked Waipuna for our final three nights in New Zealand because it was away from the busy downtown area. Expedia also listed a spa, which turned out not to be there. They did have a business that would come, but we didn’t bother. We enjoyed the stay anyway.

We had three people in the room and kept having to ask for three towels and utensils. The EV chargers also came with no useful instructions. I had to stand in pouring rain to download and set up QR codes, when a simple PDF at reception or a handout would have helped. Rainwater pouring off the roof all night was another negative. I know it was heavy rain, but it seems maintenance is overdue. I’d been looking forward to the spa pools, but the steps aren’t suitable for people who have trouble stepping down into them. That was a real disappointment.
