Calling this "luxury" only works if an old house counts as luxury. The place smelled awful, dusty and moldy. The bathrobes clearly hadn't been washed, and one still had a previous visitor's shampoo bottle in it. The shower is over a bathtub with an uneven floor, so you have to stand at odd angles. The toilet is upstairs, which is awful if you need to go in the night and have to walk out into the hallway. You also have to request the hot tub an hour before using it so it can heat up. There were seven of us, but only six breakfast places had been set. We asked for laundry, which was done, but it wasn't brought back, so I had to fetch it from their laundry room. When we asked the host something at breakfast around 9am, he came out in his pajamas.

The hosts were lovely, and for the price the value is incredible. Breakfast included homemade bread and jams, and there were cookies, marshmallows, a complimentary mini bar, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The list goes on. The sauna and hot tub were amazing. We'd happily return, and I'd highly recommend it for a weekend getaway. We were so glad we chose it, it was better value than anywhere else.

The gardens are lovely and the price is very cheap. The girl who let us in was friendly, though I'm not sure the floors get vacuumed between stays.

Our one night stay in the McSkimming room was full of thoughtful little touches. It was luxurious, warm and comfortable, and the place looked beautiful, especially the garden at night. It's tucked away somewhere quiet, so it was easy to relax. They greeted us politely and showed us around, and our late booking wasn't a problem or any more expensive, which really helped. Everything exceeded what I expected. No complaints from me, and I'll book again when I need to.

We used this beautiful heritage house as a base for exploring the Catlins, and would recommend it for that. The early 20th century accommodation was warm and cozy even in winter. The grounds were lovely to wander around, and the sauna and hot tub were a real treat. The managers, Braydon and Aeziel, were extremely friendly and accommodating.
