The meals were a real highlight, with a different dinner menu each night and a lovely set menu to choose from. Breakfast was great too. We also paddled out together in the kayaks, following a suggestion to cross the bay where Hector dolphins had been spotted. We were lucky enough to see them, such a treat. The four of us had come a long way to mark my 70th year, and the stay was a perfect way to celebrate. My wife, our 27-year-old daughter and her boyfriend, and I had two bedrooms, a comfortable living space, and a deck looking over the cove. We felt wonderfully cared for from the start, but in a relaxed way. I was hoping to splurge a little, and it was exactly right. If Nicholas is still giving massages, book one. It was one of the best I’ve ever had. His girlfriend, the sommelier, also pointed us to a delicious Montepulciano.

We’d hoped to show our friends the best of the Marlborough Sounds, since we live locally and had stayed at the resort years ago. Instead, lunch left us disappointed. The food was lovely, but the service fell short. There weren’t any other diners in the restaurant, which made that especially disappointing, considering what we paid for the meal and wine. We’d come for a three-course lunch and paid top dollar.

The walking, hiking, and Eko tour were lovely, and we really enjoyed the native trees and birds right around the resort. September made for a wonderfully peaceful winter getaway at Bay of Many Coves. We loved the whole place, from the amazing food to the breathtaking view from our room, and the staff looked after us so well.
