Base Backpackers Queenstown

Pretty much what you’d expect from a backpackers. We had a private single room with our own bathroom. It was a good size, warm, and had a really comfy bed and lovely views from the third floor. You can hear other guests and the bar downstairs, though it only got really noisy on Friday and Saturday. The location is brilliant.

After a day packed with big thrills or extreme sports, this is a good place to rest, and it’s also handy for getting around the best parts of the city. It’s only a five-minute walk to the lake or gondola. The rooms are well maintained, and I was lucky to have great roommates while I stayed here. The best thing for me was the friendships. I had an amazing time meeting people from all over the world. The crew were always ready to help with anything too. Special thanks to Sebastian, you’re a LEGEND!

The location right in the centre was great, and the staff were lovely, but the hostel itself was poor. The club downstairs was so loud we could hear it in the room. Rooms were tiny, and the bunk beds were very noisy. My hair kept getting caught on the underside of the top bunk. The shower had no settings and was extremely hot and uncomfortable. Almost every washing machine was broken, leaving just one for the whole hostel, and the same went for the dryers. The kitchen was dirty and not good. I wouldn’t rate Base or stay again.

The bar had a fun vibe, and the drink deals were really cheap. I ended up making lots of friends there. The rooms felt roomy, the beds were comfortable, and the whole place was very clean with everything I needed. Reception staff were full of useful information. I'd happily stay again :)
