We stayed three nights with my mother and my boys, aged 7 and 10. I’d accidentally booked for one person, but the friendly guests and owners helped us sort it out so we could all stay together. The place has a really chill vibe, and the guests were friendly. The pool was empty because it was spring and due to be repainted soon. I was glad it was too cold to use anyway, since the boys kept busy with hula hoops, board games and exploring the grounds. They also made a friend in the owner’s son. There was a birthday party on the first night, but we didn’t have any noise trouble in room 1 at Rimus. Definitely recommend it for backpackers or anyone after cheap accommodation who’s comfortable with communal living.

I’ve visited Waiheke Island several times over the past three years, and Hekerua lodge became my favorite for its convenient location and friendly, communal atmosphere. On my last visit, the island and lodge were quiet, but the vibe felt a bit different. Some lodge rules weren’t clear, and some guests didn’t follow them. A couple of nights were noisy until the next morning, which made some guests uncomfortable.

We got such a warm welcome, and the staff, residents and other guests were all really friendly. The Kauri room was very clean and well located, with French doors opening onto the pool and deck. It was a great deal, and the spa and hot tub were lovely. A really relaxing stay.

The rooms are quiet and comfortable, and there’s a hot tub if you want to relax. Shared areas and facilities were always clean and tidy, thanks to their fantastic woofers. We met lovely people from all over the world and enjoyed chatting or sharing a glass of wine. The best pizzas on the island, too. I’ll miss pizza nights. Such a comfortable place to stay in Waiheke, highly recommend!

We had a lovely weekend here and would definitely come back. There’s a pleasant short walk to local shops with amazing views, and the beaches are breathtaking. Staff were friendly and helpful, and it was easy to chat with other guests. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. We especially liked unwinding in the pool and spa pool, surrounded by beautiful NZ bush. A great budget stay!
