Riverside Hotel Marlborough

Alexander, the duty manager, was the bomb. He cooked breakfast, booked taxis, and sorted out our rooms when we arrived early. Nothing was too much trouble, and he was always smiling and so polite. The epitome of a great host. We were there for the Marlborough Food and wine festival 2026 and booked the two bedroom suite so our group would have somewhere to get together. There was heaps of room and it was beautifully appointed.

We were really well looked after at breakfast, which had both continental and cooked options. The young man who was around the hotel consistently seemed to be both the cook and cleaner. He was helpful, attentive, and chatty, just like the man at reception, who made us feel welcome. We also had a delicious dinner one night at Sasa, the in house restaurant. My stay was quiet and the place was clean and welcoming. The room was large, with a very comfy bed. The shower had good pressure and hot water, though it was over a bath, which may not suit everyone. I understand that setup isn’t in every room. The billing system was confusing and needs sorting out.

Jordan was a lovely staff member and made sure I was comfortable throughout my stay. I was glad to be placed in the new wing. The room was fresh, clean, and beautiful, with a comfy bed, modern bathroom, and awesome shower. I highly recommend the accommodation and service, and I’ll be back.

We didn’t stay there, but had dinner at the adjacent Restaurant Sasa. The lady owner seemed very attentive, giving us directions and information. She ended up chatting with us briefly about where we’re from and our travels. That’s how a business should be run, off the book! Excellent!
