It’s an old pub, but fine for an overnight stay. The room was basic and warmed up quickly, which mattered a lot at this time of year. A basic Kiwi breakfast was included, and there were separate communal lounge and dining areas. It’s right on the main road, with access through a separate door or through the pub.

I left my car in the plentiful parking across from the hotel while I went to Stewart Island. The ferry terminal is only about a three minute walk away. The standard single room was spacious and comfortable, and I especially liked having a sink in the room, which made life easier. The TV was awesome, and the hotel’s location was really convenient.

I enjoyed my stay at this comfortable old hotel. The staff were friendly, though a few facilities were out of order, including the toilets and laundry.

The locals were really friendly, and the bar was well stocked. It’s a cool place with plenty of history, and a great pit stop if you’re heading to the end of the road at Bluff. Looking forward to my next visit.
