The smell was awful. Within a couple of hours I had a headache and felt nauseous. It was noisy all night, with road traffic and water pipes whenever guests in other rooms used water. The kitchen and bathroom doors wouldn't shut properly, so I had to wedge them closed with a towel. For what I paid, it was very pricey, and the place felt only one step up from a backpackers. Horrible stay.

The room wasn't clean to standard when I moved in, and the wifi was poor for the price. The walls were so thin I could hear the neighbors doing things, so I wouldn't recommend it for families with children. When I raised the condition during a room inspection, I was told it was on me to scrub the wall and bring the room back to standard. That's their job. I'd give the place a zero if I hadn't needed to stay there because of emergency housing.

Lyn and Kerry made us feel at home again and again. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, and the amenities covered what we needed for a comfortable stay away from home. For the quality and comfort Avalon Motel provides, the price is unbelievably low. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Christchurch. Highly recommended, and thank you Lyn and Kerry for being such great hosts.

Bealey Ave has lovely tree-lined views in both directions, and the setting is central, about five minutes from inner-city attractions. There are also parks, riverside and cemetery walks for a quieter or more romantic stroll. The rooms I saw were snug and cosy, fitted out well, with their own kitchen and bathroom/toilet. TV is through Sky Network, and customer WiFi is password-protected.

The rooms are clean, tidy, and warm, with free Wi-Fi. They're set up more for visitors than locals, and have kitchens and showers. The people here look after you well.
