Commodore Airport Hotel

The location is absolutely fab if you’re flying, and we’d highly recommend the hotel. Staff made us feel welcome, escorted our luggage to the room, then helped take it back to reception, all with a smile. The room was perfect, and there was no cheap shampoo or conditioner. The pool was clean and had floaters, while the spa and sauna with lavender spray were fab. We didn’t have time to try the gym or tennis court. Food was available in the restaurant until 9:30, with room service available 24x7 otherwise. The restaurant staff could perhaps be a little more hospitable compared with others in the hotel, but they were okay and we have no real complaints. It’s a 4* hotel with 5* hospitality.

We stayed at the Commodore twice, once at the start and again at the end of our South Island travels, and both visits were great. It’s a fantastic, well-run family-owned hotel, with very comfortable rooms and great food. We had both dinner and breakfast on each stay. The staff were absolutely wonderful, attentive, and helpful. If you need somewhere near the airport, you won’t be disappointed.

The restaurant was a highlight. It’s pricey, but the food and drinks were outstanding, especially the wine. We loved dinner, and breakfast was spectacular, with loads of hot and cold choices. Hotel and restaurant staff were super friendly and helpful, too. The rooms are modern, clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The hot tub, pool, and garden area were all well maintained. You’re super close to the airport, but somehow can’t hear the planes indoors. You can’t ask for a better airport hotel.

The family-run feel really comes through here, from the thoughtful details to the warm atmosphere. We had a huge room with a lovely outlook and direct access outside, and everyone on staff was polite and accommodating. The restaurant was a highlight too, with well-priced food that was the best we had on our NZ trip. There’s a good-sized pool, tennis courts and gardens. They even picked us up after we returned our rental car to the AP. It’s a short drive from Christchurch Airport, and I can see why airline crews like it as a home away from home. We’ll be back after such a fabulous stay :)
