The staff replied promptly to my emails before our stay, and we enjoyed the walks around the resort each day. My sister and I found plenty of tracks to explore at The Groynes, with lots of wildlife, including birds, swans, ducks and pukekos. We also had a drink and delicious bar snacks. I’d stay here again. We were three adults sharing a suite, and there was ample room for us. The resort is dated and needs renovation, but we were happy with the suite overall. The kitchen and dining area was dim, and several lights weren’t working, including the extractor fan light. Staff arranged maintenance to replace two of the failed lights. Our room hadn’t been cleaned, and a lovely staff member apologized for that and the lighting trouble. I think his name was Donghoon. He’s a credit to the team. The shower was great, with strong pressure and lovely hot water. The shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were fixed to the wall above the bath, though, making them hard to reach, especially for my frail 80-year-old mother. It would have been better to put them nearer the shower.

A missed flight left us needing somewhere to stay unexpectedly, and the staff treated us so well. They were polite and helpful, and we felt like royalty. The restaurant was great, with both formal dining and a bar serving bar food. We had the best stay!

The setting in Clearwater, Christchurch is what made this stay stand out. The rooms were comfortable enough, though they’re starting to look old and could use refurbishment. I enjoyed the food, but it wasn’t especially memorable. Reception service was uneven and could be better. It was a pleasant stay, if not an exceptional one, and the property has a lot of potential in such a beautiful location.

This has become my first choice for future trips to Christchurch. Peppers Clearwater Resort is close to the city but still feels like a peaceful escape, and the views from the room are lovely and relaxing. The grounds are kept immaculate and the staff are always welcoming and attentive. I’ve stayed twice now, and this visit was even better than the first. Highly recommend.

Next time I’d pay the extra $10 a night for a Lakeview room instead of a King room. The view from the Lakeview is so much better. We did enjoy the hotel: the bed was large and very comfortable, and the location among a big golf course and small lakes is amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful, and reception is open 24/7. Housekeeping missed our room one day, even though we’d left the hanger on the door to say we were out. Reception brought fresh towels within five minutes, which was helpful, but the room still shouldn’t have been missed. I’d definitely stay again.
