Southwark Hotel & Apartments

The lights outside our room stayed on through the night, so next time I'd bring an eye mask. Even with that, we'd definitely stay again because the location was awesome. We booked a twin king studio through Air NZ and had no booking system problems. When we arrived, it looked like we'd been upgraded to a two bedroom apartment. The decor was great, the beds were comfortable, and it was very well appointed. Thank you.

The room felt cramped, especially with two beds and just one bedside table and lamp between them. The bathroom was equally tiny, with a basic little sink and nowhere to put toiletries or anything else. It also smelled bad and felt musty. We could hear every little thing from next door, from the toilet flushing and fan to people moving around. Outside, the view was just a grey building and a tin roof. Parking was full, so we left the car on the street, where the space became a 15-minute park at daylight. We’re still wondering if we got a fine. Even the lift was awkward, just a steel platform in a steel shaft where you had to hold the switch and guess when to step off. We stayed one night, thankfully. We rarely leave a negative review, but this was by far our worst hotel stay.

The staff made everything feel easy, and they were really friendly. The place was spotless, with a lovely garden area, a great cafe next door, and a kitchen and laundry that were both very good.

I was booked into the compact double for two work nights after our two preferred places near the location were already full. It faces the busy car park and reception on the ground floor, and the room was so tiny it felt claustrophobic. As a light sleeper, I barely slept. The location works well for students, but the price felt high for what we got, so I wouldn’t stay again.
