The Elmwood Motel

Terry let us into our room early so we could settle before an online meeting, which was much appreciated. The location is ideal, just a two-minute walk to cafes and restaurants, and we'd definitely return. I'm fussy about where I stay, and this place really felt like home. The room was exceptionally spacious, with a living area, separate bedroom, kitchenette, microwave, and a huge shower and toilet. I don't often leave reviews, but this one deserves praise.

The bed and pillows were so comfortable, and the owner was a friendly, chatty gentleman. We found the location handy, close to the CBD and not far from Chch airport. This quaint motel was lovely for a night or two, clean, tidy and homely. The water pressure was great for a much-needed hot shower, and there was a bath too.

A restful family room to come back to after a busy day exploring. It's quiet, recently done up, and the quality linen and sheets were better than at some really expensive hotels I've stayed in. The host was friendly and helpful. A delightful stay, highly recommended, and I'd 100% stay again.

Elmwood was our favourite motel of the South Island trip, and we were glad to return at the end. We spent two nights there at the end of our two-week tour and one night at the start, in a two-bedroom unit. The recently updated units made us feel very comfortable. Beds were comfortable, and staff and owners were friendly. Travelling with a three-year-old, having a bath in the bathroom was a huge plus. Hagley Park was walkable, and it was easy to get into the city centre. I'd happily stay again or recommend it to others.
