We were a group of 13 adults from Australia, hoping for some luck with snapper fishing, and we weren’t disappointed. Tidewater Motel & Tourist Park has plenty for fishers: a fish cleaning area, room to park a boat, and neatly maintained lawns for tents or RVs. The cabins stood out for being spacious, modern, clean and comfortable, with a stove, microwave, kettle and toaster. If you’re not in a cabin, the communal kitchen and BBQ area were always clean and stocked with all the utensils, plates and cups you’d need. Kelvin and Shelley went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable, and their hospitality made the trip even better. The park is also well located, about a 3-minute walk from the local pubs, cafes and restaurants. For sightseeing, Driving Creek Railway is nearby and I really enjoyed it. The hot beach is a bit of a drive, but well worth it. Highly recommend Tidewater Motel & Tourist Park, especially if you’re into fishing. We’ll definitely be back!

Kelvin and Shelley were such welcoming, friendly hosts, always ready to help, and you can tell they take real pride in the park and care about their guests. Kelvin went out of his way to meet our fishing needs, which was one of the highlights of our trip, and his meal recommendations in town turned out to be excellent. The park was clean and well maintained, with a relaxed, friendly feel. Everything was organised and ran smoothly. We can’t recommend Tidewater Tourist Park in Coromandel town, NZ, highly enough. If you’re visiting and want helpful hosts, support organising fishing trips and a welcoming place to stay, this is the spot. Thanks again, Kelvin and Shelley. We’ll be back!

This was a perfect first night in NZ. The detached cabin looked extremely clean and new, with a really comfy medium-firm bed and nice pillows. It was very quiet, even in the cabin nearest the road. There was a private garden with a picnic table, and town was a quick walk away. The owners were friendly.

The place was clean and tidy, and close to shops and restaurants, but the hosts were very rude to guests, so I’m never booking here again. At 8:30 in the morning, we were eating breakfast in the common area and keeping our voices as low as possible when the lady host told us to be quiet. She then explained that we’d booked a powered site and the area was for budget cabins. Signs saying the common area was only for budget cabin guests would have been helpful. We greeted the host with “good morning,” but she just looked at us and walked away. She could have been more hospitable.

The facilities were very clean, the grass was well manicured, and there weren’t any pesky biting or stinging insects. I’d love to stay again, except the customer service was disappointing. When problems came up, it seemed no solutions were offered, and the receptionist felt strict. The place is full of warnings, yet men and women share the bathrooms and toilets. It felt like take it or leave it. I also didn’t like toddlers under two being charged like adults. Having my card details photographed, including the CVC and expiry date, made me very uncomfortable. I’ve never experienced that before when paying for a room or tent.
