Dargaville Campervan Park and Cabins

The railway carriages turned into cabins sounded a little odd at first, but I was impressed once I saw them. Inside, the quality was excellent, much better than what most holiday parks call a cabin. It felt more like a full motel unit, with its own shower and bathroom, and still cost a lot less. Great value for the money.

Everything was clean and tidy, though it looked dated, like it was from the late 1960s. The Wi-Fi only worked from the car park. The toilet wasn't bolted to the floor, which freaked me out: one of my legs stuck slightly to the seat as I stood, and for a moment the toilet rocked like a rodeo bronco.

It was fun staying in one of the small ensuite rooms made from a railway carriage. The room had the basics, including a kettle, fridge and TV. Countdown supermarket is right across the street, so it was easy to pick up food and drinks.

The converted freight carriages, which are 140 years old, make great cabins. They're reasonably priced and come with an ensuite. Donna and Vic are warm, friendly hosts and run the place really well.
