Halfmoon Cottage

There's a shared bathroom and toilet, but otherwise the place is spacious, with a big living and dining room and a kitchen stocked with everything you need. There are plenty of tables where you can sit or eat overlooking the beautiful garden. The hosts gave us a warm welcome, and the place was spotless and very quiet. It's a gorgeous base for visiting all of Akaroa's bays and beaches. Just go!

The owners were exceptionally kind and made us feel connected, almost as if we were visiting family. Halfmoon Cottage is a charming house with lovely gardens and verandas, and the boutique hostel is well organized and very clean. We slept comfortably in the beds. It's easily my top choice of accommodation in Akaroa, and we'd recommend it without hesitation.

Cornelius and Margo really know how to welcome people. The place is clean and well maintained, and this boutique backpackers beat some hotels and motels I've stayed in, hands down. As a seasoned traveler, I'd highly recommend Half Moon Cottage when visiting Akaroa.

This hostel feels like a proper break from the busy pace of life, and there's plenty to explore nearby. The hosts, Cornelius and Margo, are wonderful, friendly, engaging and helpful people. Their classically restored villa in picturesque Barry's Bay near Akaroa is roomy and comfortable, with a large kitchen and dining area. The gardens are gorgeous, and every room was extremely tidy and clean. I highly recommend this place. It's awesome!
