Misty Peaks Guesthouse

Debbie was such a hospitable host and made sure everything was just right for us. Misty Peaks is an absolutely stunning home, with everything you could need. There aren't enough words for how amazing the accommodation was. We'll come back with our extended family sometime soon.

We stayed in a room with the mountain side view, and the views were lovely. The host was great, the room was very clean, and breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked by the host. One tip: last-minute deals showed a 70 percent discount off the usual prices. A room listed at 160 NZD was 70 NZD on the same day.

The bed and breakfast were nice, but the hosts made the experience feel cold. They were odd about the booking when we called. When we arrived after dinner, the reception was chilly, and later there were rude, passive-aggressive comments as they hurried us out. We stayed in the common areas to send emails and book the next night, but kept getting pestered to leave. After the warm homestays we've often enjoyed in this beautiful country, this was a letdown. For these hosts, it felt like just business. I'd look for another B&B or a hotel.

For our honeymoon night, the room was cozy, but the host wasn't very friendly when welcoming us or saying goodbye. Several things we expected or had been promised by this '4-star' accommodation were missing, including 24/7 reception, a TV, WiFi, a bathroom night light, and a heated bathroom floor. The bad weather meant there was no view at all, which didn't help, though that's clearly not something the hosts could control. Compared with other places around NZ, I think 120-130 NZD would have been the most appropriate rate for our booking.
