The location was handy, just a minute or two on foot from downtown, and our room was clean. It was a bit dated, though, and the mattress wasn’t very comfortable. We stayed in the older section, although it looks like they’ve recently expanded. This was our least favourite stay during our 10 days in New Zealand, probably because we found the hospitality lacking. There wasn’t much warmth or welcome, just a businesslike process of getting us into the room without pleasantries. There were also signs telling us to wash the dishes and clean up or face a $25 fine.

I was lucky to get a room where I could see the snow capped peaks when the weather was good. It’s a fabulous location in Franz Josef, with cafes, hotels, helicopter services and the wildlife centre all quickly accessible. The rooms are large and comfortable, with good linen, a kitchenette and other useful amenities like a coin operated laundry. A great experience, and the staff were wonderful.

We arrived after dark on a wet night to find the heating already on, so the room was cosy and warm. The bed was very comfortable, and everything was very clean, including the room, kitchenette and bathroom. A welcoming, comfortable place to stay while travelling the South Island’s West Coast.

The room was huge and very clean, and we got some great tips on where to eat from the first rate staff. It’s in a great spot, with stunning views. What a great location.

We could park right outside our lovely, clean room. It was large, with armchairs and a balcony looking over the glacier. The bathroom was nice, with a spa bath, and the toiletries were great. The location was great too.
