The staff were the highlight: kind, attentive, and quick to respond to requests. The location is a 5-minute drive from town, but it's quiet, has good parking, and lets you get away from the tourist crowds. Our room, #5, was wheelchair accessible, with a large shower area and fixtures around the perimeter but no curtain. A few extra floor towels would help. There were lots of complimentary amenities, and the hairdryer was exceptionally good. The room had two fans but no air conditioner, and the lack of ventilation made that a problem. Opening the sliding glass door was the only way to get fresh air, but then insects could get in and the room wasn't secure. So at night it was essentially a sealed box of rebreathed air with fans blowing. At $260 a night, I'd expect some fresh air while sleeping.

The owner is helpful and effectively bilingual, and the trail map she prepared for us was great. The rooms are big, clean, and thoughtfully put together. I loved being a short distance from town, in a quiet and peaceful spot.

The hosts are a lovely couple who clearly care about how guests experience their stay. Our Room 15 faced north and had a stunning view. There was plenty of room for our luggage and other things, and the bed was super comfortable. A great hotel in Franz Josef, highly recommended.

Angela and her team made our stay in Franz Josef such a good experience. We were a family of five with campervan trouble and called late at night, and Angela went out of her way to find us a room for two nights. She was so warm and helpful. The rooms were spacious, spotless and had really comfortable beds, and breakfast was great. We absolutely loved staying here and highly recommend it.

We had to leave early, but the manager made sure we had something to eat before breakfast was being served. That was especially kind after we arrived in the rain without having had dinner. The hotel is just outside town, and she talked us through dinner options, including places that deliver or can pick you up. We only stayed overnight, but really appreciated the hospitality. Our room was roomy and comfortable, with extras like a jetted bath, double vanity and wall fireplace heater. We had a great stay and the service made us wish we could stay longer. I recommend the Oasis hotel.
