Cedar House

The house is lovely and sits in a quiet spot, just a short walk from the town centre. There are two guest sitting areas, a nicely stocked kitchenette, and a huge room with a lovely shower room. Do stay!

The old building is lovely, and the large rooms and guest lounges are comfortable, warm, and spotlessly clean. That's all excellent. The breakfast was disappointing, though, and the hospitality didn't quite match the service I'd expect for the price. I hope the owners can improve that, because the accommodation really is lovely.

The breakfast was the letdown for us. It was self-service and continental, but lacked finesse: budget-style plastic sachets of butter and preserves, supermarket bread, and milk and juice in plastic cartons. On our first morning there weren't any coffee pods for the machine, and nobody was home to ask. The rest of our stay at Cedar House was lovely. It's been beautifully renovated, with an impressive, tasteful interior and a very spacious room. The bed linen, towels, and toiletries felt luxurious, and the guest kitchenette had complimentary tea, a coffee pod machine, beer, wine, and snacks.

The care from the hosts was superb. They booked taxis for me, and Penny even kindly drove me to dinner. Communication while booking was excellent too. I was in Gisborne for work and needed somewhere quiet where I could sleep well, and Cedar House gave me that and more. My spacious, comfortable room and beautiful bathroom were immaculate. I made time to enjoy the inviting bath. There was a pleasant continental breakfast, a guest kitchen, and several lounges.
