We only booked two nights and regretted not staying longer. Filip and Sonja have made Golden Bay a traveler’s dream, with every detail carefully considered. They’re perfect hosts, and their travel experience means they can offer valuable advice for New Zealand. After a day trip, there was homemade cake waiting in our room. After a full day exploring Golden Bay, we didn’t expect to come back to a beautiful homemade cake. The service feels professional while still being warm and personal. The garden has a touch of tropical Balinese style that gives the bay lodge so much character. Everything felt close to perfect, from the bay view and cleanliness to the hospitality, interior decor, and garden. After walking on the beach, relaxing in the spa and watching the stars felt like a luxury. We’re leaving tomorrow, but we’ll stay here again when we return to Able Tasman.

The views are fantastic, and it’s an easy walk down to Pohara and the beach. The hosts, Sonya and Filip, have thought through every detail, and their hospitality and service are top notch. We’ve travelled around NZ about as much as they have, and this is without question the best place we’ve stayed. The rates are extremely reasonable for what you get. Other places we’ve visited would charge twice as much and offer half the service and quality. We’ll definitely be back. It deserves 10/5 stars.
