Oak Lodge Homestay

After dinner in town, we sat on the balcony with a lovely glass of wine and watched the sun set over the mountains. Robin served a freshly cooked breakfast in the morning, a perfect start to our busy day. The accommodation at Oak Lodge was clean and modern, and we even got an upgrade to an en-suite bathroom. Robin was friendly and accommodating, with excellent suggestions for restaurants and local activities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it for a comfortable, memorable visit.

We were making up our route as we went, and Robin took time to talk with us and suggest where to head next. His advice led us to two wonderful stops, FableTerraceDowns and the Hermitage. He really cared that we had a good trip around NZ. We also enjoyed his peaceful home, his company, and the breakfast he cooked for us. A lovely stop on our South Island drive. Hope we cross paths again, Robin!

The cottage was warm and clean, which we especially appreciated on a cold day. It has a proper bedroom, kitchen and oven, so we could make a simple dinner and had what we needed. The host was friendly, and his big dog was cute. For what we got, it felt like very good value.

The cottage suited my medical needs perfectly, and the quiet mornings were a pleasure, with birdsong and the occasional sheep instead of traffic and noisy neighbours. We spent six nights at Oak Lodge in the separate cottage and would gladly come back. Robin also brought us a bowl of freshly picked tomatoes and about half a dozen fresh eggs each morning. It’s a fantastic place, and I’d happily recommend it to others.
