Barclay Motel

The customer service was absolutely fine, but a few things let us down. The single beds were odd, with the mattresses sloping, and there wasn’t a power point in the room. The Wi-Fi also wouldn’t connect during our stay.

The room was spotless, and the bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable. I was completely satisfied with my stay, especially the outstanding hospitality from staff who were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. I’d definitely come back and highly recommend it to friends and family.

The room was clean enough, and the paint looked in good condition, with no marks or scuffs that I could see. Staff were friendly when we arrived, though it looked like only a few rooms were in operation. Most of the rooms we passed didn’t seem to be set up as bedrooms anymore, perhaps because the place was mid-conversion. The door lock was very hard to get the key out of. It seems the barrel is pulling out a bit, but pressing it in makes the key easier to remove. The sign on the back of the door says to secure the chain and windows at night for security, but the chain was broken, so it couldn’t be used. There was only one mostly used-up toilet roll in the bathroom and no spare. I also found a cockroach in the kitchen. The tea selection amounted to one tea bag, and the UHT milk in the fridge had gone off and curdled. Who’s heard of UHT milk going off?

The manager was the worst person I’ve ever dealt with at a property. I used to own a motel, so I was explaining, as kindly as I could, how I thought she could make more money from the booking and how it could benefit both of us. She kept interrupting until I said, “Excuse me, may I please finish talking, and can you stop interrupting me?” Then she hung up on me. Lol, beyond a joke. I hope the owners listen and take action. Staff like her cost thousands, then hundreds of thousands in a year of damage.
