For $40 a night, I thought the campground had a lovely, wholesome feel, with stars overhead and nature sounds around. My cabin looked a little like an outhouse, but it was fine for one night. The boil water notice was inconvenient, though I know that wasn’t entirely their fault. The stone paths were loud underfoot, which could bother families or light sleepers. My biggest issue was the cabin smoke alarm going off at 2am. I have trauma related to fire alarms, so it was very distressing. It took two calls to reach the after-hours number, and when I spoke with staff the next morning, they had no record of it.

The Forestry cabin was excellent, and Hanmer Springs is only a few minutes away. The staff were friendly and made an exception to the minimum age rule, which I hadn’t realised applied when I first booked.

A great family place, and the kids especially loved it. The kitchens and bathrooms did the job, and we had a lovely stay. We’ll be back!
