Riverside Homestead Waitangi

Chris and Michael were attentive without intruding, and Michael prepared breakfast while Chris served it. Both mornings we had free range eggs, home-baked breads, homemade conserves, aromatic coffee and freshly squeezed juice. We ate at the big dining table so we could chat, though breakfast could just as easily have been served on our private balcony. The homestead feels wonderfully restful, with soft classical music throughout. Chris and Michael have decorated with care and taste, mixing artwork and personal finds collected over the years. Family photos made it feel like we were staying in their home, not just being anonymous guests in an up-market hotel. We chose Riverside Homestead, Waitangi, for a short break from our usual busy Auckland lives, and it was a great choice. Our Meadow View suite was roomy, with a private balcony and a separate kitchenette area. It had a microwave, small fridge, tea and coffee facilities including a capsule coffee machine, plus an actual sink and bench, which I appreciated for filling the kettle. The huge ensuite bathroom had a spacious shower and deep bath, adding to the peaceful, roomy feel. North-facing views looked over native bush, a sloping lawn down to the Waitangi River, rolling hills and wide open sky. If you’re after a tranquil retreat, Riverside Homestead is worth a look.
