Cumberland Court Motel

We booked two nights for this weekend and will definitely stay here next time we need a place. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and all the bedding and towels were clean.

There were too many issues for me to give this four stars, even though the staff were amazing. They went above and beyond, and the huge rooms were clean and well laid out. The price was good, the location worked well for immediate needs and getting around the wider area, and the spa bath was a great extra. Parking was available on site, though it got tight when the place was full. The internet didn’t work for us at all, and other guests complained too. I found the shower too low, so at 177 cm I had to duck to wash my hair. The rooms need maintenance and decor work: the silicone is moldy, taps are broken, and the hot and cold markings are the wrong way around. Our room was arranged for four and we booked for four, but there were only three of several things, including chairs for the small cafe table. They fixed that promptly after we raised it the next day. The paid laundry washing machine was out of order, though the manager kindly washed and dried our things for us. It’s at a busy T intersection, and traffic and people were loud. The windows are single glazed. There were a lot of homeless people and several mentally unwell residents in the general area. I was cautious about going out alone, though nothing happened to me.

We got shifted around a bit. First our room’s spa bath was broken, then we had to move again because other people were booked into that room. The service wasn’t to blame, though. He tried everything he could to help, and the stay was really nice otherwise.

The rooms were huge and clean, and the service was up to standard. We had a great stay and would come back if we visit New Zealand again.
