Howick Motor Lodge

We booked the family apartment for one night. The kids had two single beds upstairs, and there was a double bed downstairs. Everyone slept really well, and the beds were comfy. When we arrived at about 2:30pm, the apartment was clean and fully stocked. The person at the front desk was friendly, helpful and quick. The kids liked the pool. It’s a little small, but we were the only family using it at the time, so it was just right. There wasn’t anything else for them to do, though that didn’t bother us. I’d kept my expectations low after reading other Google reviews, so I was pleasantly surprised. I’d definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Some of the reviews seem a bit unfair to me. The motel makes no claim to be something it isn’t, and for Auckland the price is exceptional value. Our room had a double bed, two singles, and all the kitchen appliances and utensils we needed. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good. It was nice having a pool. Our three-year-old had a sniffle, so we chose not to use it. My only suggestion is that it could have been cleaner, given it was the middle of summer. That still wasn’t enough to make me mark the place down.

It was a cheap, clean place with plenty of room for the kids, comfy beds and a hot shower. It’s an older-style motel, and the shower was a bit too old for my liking, so that’s the one star I took off.

The rooms had everything we needed. There were two single beds at the top of a steep staircase, plus a fold-out bed downstairs, which worked well for our younger children. We had a great stay, thank you!
