Ian and Jenny made us feel looked after the whole time. They’re warm, friendly, and know their patch of bush so well. The rooms were comfortable, and the setting is a peaceful haven for birds, with the New Zealand bush right behind it and real care going into protecting the habitat. We only booked one night, which was our biggest regret. This was the best part of our whole South Island trip.

The Fernbirds were close by and we got to watch them for ages. For birders visiting the area, or anyone who loves nature and a warm welcome, this is a must. Ian and Jenny are wonderful hosts, and you can see how much work they’ve put into restoring their patch of bush. The results are awe-inspiring, and I’m glad people like them are working to improve the environment. We only had one night here and wished we could’ve stayed longer.

Just 10 minutes outside Invercagill, Ian and Jenny have made a little corner of paradise. Birds singing in the morning and lush greenery all around made it feel like a real bush stay. Ian showed me around the reserve and we spotted loads of local birds. Jenny made a lovely breakfast with great coffee, and we had a great chat about nature and why it matters to preserve it. I won’t forget this place.

The breakfast Jennie made was excellent, with plenty of variety and more than enough to eat. Ian also showed us around the property and knows an incredible amount about it. Their home sits in a conservation area, with wilderness behind it stretching to the estuary salt marsh. We woke to wonderful birdsong, including Tui ,Bell birds and others. It may not be what every tourist expects, but give it a try and you might be in for a very pleasant surprise.

The breakfasts, hospitality, and quality of the place were amazing. It feels like having your own island, with walks, nature, and plenty of time to relax. A great stop before Stewart Island or while heading to the south coast and the Sounds. We loved it and will be back as soon as we can.
