The Remarkables Mountain Lodge

The view from our room was great, and the people looking after the property were warm and helpful. The rooms were just as advertised online, with hot water in the bathrooms around the clock, which was especially nice in the cold. Breakfast was a basic continental spread.

The views of the Remarkables were beautiful, but the Lodge didn't live up to expectations or the advertised facilities. It felt like a ghost town, and we didn't see any staff at all during our visit. There was nobody around when we arrived, just a key left on the reception desk. Breakfast was much the same: a note said to help ourselves to stale cereal and bread, then leave our dirty dishes on the side. The advertised spa and sauna were locked, there was no cosy fire lit at night, and every pool cue was broken. Our room wasn't serviced during our two-night stay, so the dirty plates and glasses were left sitting there. If you want to avoid any social interaction, it might be the perfect place.

The location is idyllic, and the continental breakfast was good, with cereals, yoghurt, spreads, bananas, and a coffee pod machine that made great coffee. Our upgraded suite was beautiful, and the service was second to none. Hostess Suhk was warm, friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful, bending over backwards to make sure we had a great stay. When it rained, she gave us an umbrella to get to our villa and took the brunt of the weather herself. You can't put a price on Sukhs commitment to her guests. We loved staying here, would highly recommend it, and would definitely come back.

For more than $400 a night, I expected luxury. Instead, the shower was awful and wouldn't drain, the fan didn't work, and rubbish from previous guests was still in the room. The bed was hard, and both mornings there were dead flowers sitting in stagnant water on the breakfast table. Even the complimentary shower gel and shampoo were already half used. 😝
