The room was huge, with the bathroom tucked off to one side, and the king bed was roomy and really comfortable. The shower had excellent pressure, and everything else was great too. There’s no fridge in the room, but a shared one sits just outside in the hallway. Tea is provided, though there’s no cooking setup. We picked up ready-made food at New World and Woolworths. We only stayed one night while passing through Kaikohe and hadn’t even known this place was here. The other accommodation we tried was full, and they pointed us to another option up town, the left bank. The hostess was brilliant to deal with and very accommodating. We’ll definitely stay again next time we’re in the area. 5 stars. Thank you...

The old bank has been renovated into lovely group accommodation, and it worked really well for our group of cyclists riding the Twin Coast Cycle trail. It’s right in town, close to the local pub and restaurants, which were great too. The host was delightfully friendly and super helpful, even better than we’d expected. We thought the stay would be good, but it was great. What a find. We had a very enjoyable time and highly recommend it. We’ll be back!

The old bank is beautifully restored, and with just five rooms it has a quiet, lovely feel. Mihi was a gracious host. Her restaurant is closed, but she provided cutlery and other things so we could bring takeaways back and eat in the lovely dining room. There’s also a secure place to lock up bikes. We had a great three-night stay while e-biking around Hokianga harbour. We enjoyed our time in Kaikohe, including a visit to the library and shopping at New World.

The manager was warm, welcoming and supportive, and we enjoyed the stay far more than expected. The building is a striking 115-year-old example of classic New Zealand neoclassical design. Its historic character has been carefully kept while modern comforts have been added. Details from the beds and showers to the taps, teapots and furniture have an authentic early-1900s look, without giving up convenience or comfort. Kaikohe isn’t widely known for accommodation, so this property feels like a real hidden gem. It also helps create local jobs and contributes to the town’s revival, while setting a new standard for hospitality in the area. A rare, thoughtfully done mix of heritage and modern living. Highly recommended if you appreciate historic character and want a sense of what an early-1900s stay might have been like, with modern standards.

Our family of five had the backpackers side of Leftbank to ourselves, which was lucky. It was clean and comfortable, and Mihi looked after us so well. She even showed us around the rest of the amazing historic building. A delightful stay and definitely a win for Kaikohe!
