I could have spent hours reading by the bay window and watching butterflies drift past the beautiful garden and views. The stay was so relaxing. Our room was spacious, tidy, and had everything we needed for a comfortable night. There were even date scones and butter waiting as a welcome treat, yum! Nick was a really cool, friendly host who made us feel at home, and he makes great coffee at the on-site café.

The husband and wife team have made a lovely garden setting, and the rooms have some of the best views in town. The smoothies are the best I've had in New Zealand, and honestly nothing else comes close. They also do great bagels, changing them to suit seasonal ingredients and availability, plus a seriously good Reuben. Everything feels well done, and it's very affordable.

We had a tasty evening meal from a small but good menu, just what we needed after a bike ride. Breakfast, which I think is only served at weekends, was brilliant, as was the coffee. This is a lovely little boutique place to stay, and they roast their own coffee too. Highly recommended.

The owners gave us an exceptional welcome, and the views were beautiful. My room was warm, clean, and tidy, and I slept really well. The owner made the best coffee I've had in a long time, roasting the beans too. Can't recommend this place enough!

Nick and Leanne served an excellent breakfast, with coffee roasted fresh on site. They also give guests plenty of privacy, even though town is just a few minutes' walk away. We stayed three nights in one of Tonix's two tastefully decorated suites in this gracious early 20th century Lawrence home, beautifully renovated. I especially loved the broad view over the hills of historic Lawrence and watching the birds and bees from the suite's private veranda in Tonix's English garden. We spent one day riding from Roxburgh to Lawrence after arranging a transfer to the start of the ride, then used another day to explore Gabriel’s Gully gold fields and the fascinating town museum, which tells Lawrence's central part in New Zealand's gold rush. Lawrence played a major role in that rush, and the town does a good job of showing its historic roots. Today it's in a beautiful pastoral setting, an easy stop between the east and west coasts, and at the current end of the Clutha gold trail, though that will soon be an interim stopping point.
