A welcoming, dog-friendly Hotel with lots to see in this quaint, beautifully decorated piece of NZ history. The hosts had coffee ready in the shared kitchen, and there are plenty of shared bathrooms. Out back there's a lovely fenced garden bar area, plus a pool table in the lounge. Highly reccomended.

The owners were lovely and welcoming, and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. It's peaceful and quiet, yet close enough to Levin's main town.

My favourite place to stay on the coast. Otaki shops are nearby, and Manakau Market is across the road. A lovely spot for some quiet RnR.

We had a lovely, short stay and the owner made us feel at home straight away. The beds were comfortable, and the furnishings and decor had an Edwardian and Art Deco feel. The clean, tidy common rooms had plenty of space to relax or play games. Thanks for such a welcoming visit, and we hope to come again. We enjoyed hearing about the hotel's history and seeing photos of the original Victorian Wooden Hotel, which sadly burnt down in 1918 or 1919. The hotel was rebuilt in 1920 in a sturdy post Edwardian, early Art Deco stucco style, with many additions made over the years. It felt like a journey back in time. The location is great, just off the highway, with the beach nearby. Across the highway there's a general store, two restaurants/takeaway places, and a Fruit & Veg market premise, a short walk or drive away. Be careful crossing the rail tracks and road. Traffic can be heard, so bring earplugs if that bothers you. The hotel also offers self-catering for functions, with great facilities available.

Mischelle remembered me on our return visit two weeks later and asked about our South Island trip, which was lovely. We had a friendly chat with people in the communal kitchenette, too. The occasional trains didn't bother me, though some might mind them. I found this charming place on a map when I wanted somewhere outside Wellington but close enough to make a midmorning ferry to Picton. The beds are comfy, the rooms are a great price, and we liked it enough to book again for the return trip when our ferry arrived at 6pm. We picked up dinner in Otaki, a few minutes south. I'd recommend it if you're after somewhere with a bit of personality.
