Walnut Lodge B&B

Mia and Michael have clearly thought through what makes a stay comfortable. The bed was incredibly comfortable, perhaps even better than ours at home, and the bedding was lovely. There were luggage racks, useful hooks, bathroom amenities, and high-quality local New Zealand toiletries. After a few hours at the Hobbiton Movie Set, we needed somewhere nearby for the night. We were so glad to find Mia and Michael’s Walnut Lodge, beside peaceful farmland and an easy 20-minute walk into Matamata. Michael greeted us warmly, then Mia brought over a lovely breakfast basket with cereals, granola, homemade bread, jams, and nut butters. It was handy to put what we needed in the fridge for the next morning. We wish every host had that same thoughtful touch. Thanks to you both for a great stay.

We spent two peaceful, restful days here while cycling south on the Tour Aotearoa, thanks to our excellent hosts. The separate suites were clean, nicely equipped, and European styled, with a lovely breakfast basket. It’s restful accommodation in a beautiful region, close to Hobbitton and Matamata.

Walnut BnB is cozy and a great place to stay. The breakfast was really good for heading out early to the Hobbiton movie set.

Everything was thought of and provided to a high standard, and the included breakfast was great, with homemade bread. It felt more like being at a good friend’s house than at a hotel. This was our seventh place to stay on our New Zealand holiday, travelling across both the South and North Islands, and it was easily the best. No contest. We’d recommend it to anyone and would love to return.
