Braemar Motor Inn

I’d read the reviews online and was anxious and skeptical before our two-night stay in a family unit. The room turned out surprisingly okay and good value. It was outdated, but well maintained, with clean bedding and no smell. I woke once to noise outside, though it wasn’t loud enough to wake the kids. The motel staff were helpful.

Check-in began with a jaded, disinterested interaction. The motel is clearly used for emergency accommodation, and the clientele has obviously affected the staff. There was no warm welcome to New Plymouth or encouragement to explore its many gems, and no offer of a morning paper or cooked or continental breakfast. It felt like I was pointed in a direction, handed a small bottle of milk, and ushered out of the office.

It has a run-down feel, but everything was very clean and worked. The bed was comfortable, the shower was very good, and the kitchen was well equipped. The fridge was super clean too. I thought it was okay and good value for money. 👍

We stayed as a family for five days. The room was fairly clean, with a new bathroom and a clean little kitchen that had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, people living there behaved nicely and were very quiet, and my belongings were well kept. The price was good compared with other places. I’d initially been scared by previous comments about Braemar and had decided to book somewhere else, but after talking with the manager, she assured me it wasn’t dangerous. Some of those comments aren’t fair. The manager was kind and easygoing.
