We barely needed the car during our four nights at the Metrotel for a nearby wedding. Shops, cafes, restaurants, the shopping centre, and the waterfront walk are all close by on foot. The hotel was full that weekend because Americana was on, but we still found a space in the free car park. Check-in was quick, and the staff were friendly. Our room felt modern, clean, and roomy, with a balcony for some fresh air. It also had kitchen amenities, which we didn’t end up using. The bed was comfortable, though both pillows were very soft and flat. A firmer one in the cupboard or as an extra would’ve helped. A great base in New Plymouth if you want to walk around town. Highly recommend.

The location made it easy to get to shops and attractions, and the staff were welcoming and accommodating. We had a lovely family stay. The unit was quiet, clean, and set up with everything we needed, with plenty of room and comfortable beds. I’d happily recommend it for families.

We really appreciated having parking and laundry on the premises. The apartment was spotless and well equipped, and the staff were polite and welcoming. The Metrotel is only a few minutes’ walk from the coastline. Cafes and restaurants are close on foot, while the motel sits just far enough from the busier dining area. Countdown, PAK’nSAVE, New World, and the beach are within about a five-minute drive. Lake Mangamahoe Forest is nearby too, with Taranaki Maunga a bit farther away.

The convenient location was about the only good part of our stay at Metrotel. The room badly needed updating and felt shabby, with peeling, faded furniture, patches of peeling paint, and plenty of wear. The floor was dirty and sticky enough that our bare feet turned black. Reception staff were nice, but getting a travel cot sorted took two requests. They first brought the frame, then we had to call again for a mattress and sheet. The cot was broken as well, with two sides that wouldn’t stay up.

The room was clean and spacious, and the woman at reception made check-in a lovely experience. Great place. I’d definitely stay again and recommend it.
