Ramada Suites By Wyndham Albany

Justin from the Ramada team deserves a special thanks. He went out of his way to help with our luggage and get our tablets connected so we could cast to the room TV. The place is quiet and well managed, and the rooms are modern, clean, fairly spacious and have good amenities. We were so comfortable we hated leaving. I wish the other franchise locations were managed as well.

I booked online and paid by credit card, but we were refused a room at check-in. They asked me for ID, which I didn’t have with me. My partner sent a clear photo of my licence showing my married surname, while I’d booked under my maiden name. The staff member still said it wasn’t acceptable. My 9-year-old daughter and I had nowhere to stay. We need accommodation two nights every week, and Ramada won’t be getting that business from us.

There’s a good amount of space, more than I expected, and the room has a sofa, table, TV, air conditioning, washer and dryer. The noise was the problem for me. I could hear water running whenever someone used it, plus frequent slams or bangs. I couldn’t tell if it was one particularly aggressive guest or just sounds from the corridor. If you’re a light sleeper, bring noise-cancelling headphones or consider staying elsewhere. In my experience, NZ buildings generally have very thin walls and little sound insulation.

The one-bedroom units are a good size and the accommodation is excellent. It’s quiet, with easy motorway access and plenty of restaurants nearby. I’d stay again.
