Powderhorn Chateau

We only stayed one night, but the customer service really impressed us. Check-in was welcoming, and the staff behind the bar were fantastic. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant, and everyone was professional and attentive as well as super friendly. They made us feel very welcome. Thanks Team Powderhorn, we’ll be back!

The large indoor heated pool was a great way to unwind after skiing. We stayed for two nights at the end of September to get a couple of days of spring skiing at Turoa. Our two adjoining queen suites worked perfectly for my husband, me and our two daughters. They were spacious, tidy and well equipped, and the bathrooms looked recently renovated. We ate at the Powderkeg restaurant both nights and for breakfast. The food was great and the service exceptional. It’s a little away from the main strip, but the closest property to the mountain, which suited us perfectly.

We had some nice walks during our late September, two-night stay, and I don’t have any major complaints. Between winter skiing and summer mountain activities, we were there between seasons, so some things in Okahune were closed. We enjoyed a nice brunch at Frank's, a little cafe down the road named after the owner's dog, and a couple of decent meals in the hotel restaurant. One quibble: the room had tea and coffee, including a cafetiere and fresh ground coffee, which was a real plus. There were also crisps and cookies on the tea tray, so my wife assumed they were complimentary. They weren’t in the mini bar, but were counted in its inventory. We were charged $5 for one small packet of crisps, a hell of a mark up, and the cookies would have cost $5 each too. I thought that was a bit of a cheek, especially as the hotel isn’t cheap. I think many guests would assume biscuits on a tray with complimentary tea and coffee were free as well.

We’d bought an Old Coach Road cycle package through Grab One, which unfortunately went under, so we didn’t expect to take the trip. Full credit to the PowderHorn for honoring our vouchers! The included breakfast was delicious on both days, and the welcome cocktail each was great too. We decided to have our other meals and drinks on site to support them, and weren’t disappointed. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely stay last weekend and a great experience overall. No doubt we’ll be back. Thanks again!
