Ruapehu Views Motel

The spa was lovely after a cold day, and the laundry facilities, though old, were useful. We stayed in family unit 15, which is by far the best, upstairs with a little private area out front where you can sit. Reception was handled by a lovely, welcoming woman.

For a couple using the room just for sleep and simple breakfasts, this could be fine. With three or four people, though, it didn't work for us. The kitchenette, living room, and kids' bedroom are all one space, and there's no sink there, so washing up has to happen in the shower room. Once the kids went to bed, we had to turn in too, since there was no outdoor seating. The rooms are tiny but reasonably clean and in decent condition. Storage is almost nonexistent beyond a clothes rail, so bring hangers. There are no drawers or even a place to set a suitcase down. Pack light.

The room was clean, but it felt grim, with an ancient cooker and appliances. There was no view, and the flimsy construction made the walls shake and rumble with every footstep from the people upstairs. We could hear all their talking too.

The parking area felt a bit cramped, but the views were nice and town was close. We weren't given a vacuum, even though guests are expected to clean the unit before leaving. The spa pool add-on was inexpensive.
