The room was clean, parking was a real bonus, and the garden has a lovely mountain view. Staff were super friendly and helpful, and the resort has a relaxed, cool vibe. It has definite hostel energy, so you get what you pay for. There's a hot tub, though I didn't use it, and a washing machine, but our clothes came out dirtier than before. I probably wouldn't choose to stay again now, though twenty years ago I absolutely would have.

The rooms are quite basic, with very few amenities, so don't expect hotel standards. Still, I enjoyed my stay. The staff were friendly and accommodating, helped me book a shuttle for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, and even called the agency to check everything was in order. Afterwards, a couple of ales were just the thing to wash down the dust.

The area was lovely, and we really enjoyed the restaurant and pub. Service was really great, too. The room and bathroom were both very small, the mattress wasn't comfortable at all, and it took a long time for the hot water to reach the right temperature.

We had a room for four with the sort of bunk beds you'd expect at a youth hostel, and the hotel seems geared toward winter skiers. Even so, the service was excellent and the food was wonderful. Its location also worked well as we continued our travels around New Zealand. I'd recommend staying here.

We ate dinner in the bar and came back for breakfast, and both meals were delicious. The room was really clean, though quite snug, and it could use better soundproofing.
