I booked Room No. 6 directly through the website five months ahead, but received no communication apart from the Reservation Confirmation email. When I arrived for my stay, there was a “For Sale” sign and no manager nearby. Since I struggle with English, I was fortunate that another guest kindly called on my behalf, and I was able to stay in Room No. 4. The room was much better than I’d imagined and very comfortable. Still, the manager never replied to any of my emails, even afterward. From now on, I’ll avoid booking directly with overseas hotels and use a booking site.

We were very happy with our stay. Check-in was so easy, and it’s an ideal place to stay before the Routeburn Track. There’s everything you need, including a kitchenette, and the general stores have all the hiking provisions you could want.

A beautiful, lazy little village at the north end of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. So pristine and serene, with so much natural beauty. It’s the gateway to that beautiful land called Paradise. See the photos.

Friendly owners, and the rooms are clean. The kitchenette is serviced daily, though the decor is a little older. Eat at the pub, it’s a three-minute walk and has great meals and friendly staff.
