Snowy Waters Lodge

We spent two months cycling all over NZ, and this was the accommodation we remember as the best of the trip. We arrived soaked, and Sandy greeted us with hot tea and cake. She helped however she could, even driving us to the supermarket so we wouldn't have to go back out in the rain. The rooms were lovely, and there was a drying room with heated shoe dryers. The next morning, we could stay as long as we wanted. We loved it and would stay here again if we came back to the area.

The shared lounge and dining room was ideal, since that's where we spent most of our time. The accommodation is spacious and works well for big groups, especially for our annual ski trip with friends. We've stayed at Snowy Waters Lodge three times, with groups of 25-45, and every visit has been very pleasant. The rooms aren't large, but they're the right size for us and warm in winter. The beds are comfortable, the towels are fluffy, and the kitchen has all the cookware we need and more. There's also a drying room for jackets and shoes during ski season. Sandy is approachable and incredibly helpful, always going the extra mile to make the stay memorable, especially for the children. We'll be back next year.

We had a fantastic girls' weekend. The rooms were cute, the service was great, and the team were always happy to help and very accommodating. They made us a lovely lunch to take on our hike, and dinner was delicious when we got back. After a long hike, spending the evening in the spa was a great bonus. Thanks for having us, we'd definitely return.

I needed somewhere at exactly the right point in my trip, and Sandy and family made me feel very welcome. I arrived on my bike in the middle of a downpour with no booking, and Sandy was amazing. The lodge has a lot of history, and Sandy has revived it from its derelict state 20 years ago. It’s an old building, so don’t expect the Ritz Carlton. Its character is part of the appeal. The lounge, kitchen, patio and separate bar make a great shared space, and I imagine it’ll be magic when the spa pools are running again.
