Aquarius Motel

We only stayed one night and had booked for two adults and our dogs. At the last minute our 11-year-old daughter wanted to come too, and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They arranged an extra mattress for a minimal cost. Great spot, with easy beach access.

The room was very clean, but the bed was so hard and uncomfortable that I probably wouldn’t stay again. Reception also tried to charge us twice. We had to insist that the booking had been prepaid online weeks earlier, so keep an eye on that.

I don't usually write bad reviews, and I'm no expert on mould smells, but what I found online matched the smell in the rooms. I could also see mould in photos I took in unit 6. The Chinese people managing the motel were very friendly, and the location gets a star from me too, but my stay in units 2 and 6 was unacceptable. I was first given unit 2 for seven days. As soon as I walked in, I went back to the office because the smell was so bad I couldn't sleep there. They had no other unit available then, but said they'd move me the next day. After a terrible night, I woke with a headache and could taste the smell in my mouth. It was slightly sweet, like a damp basement or old clothes left packed in a box for years. The woman in the office was sorry to hear about it, and I was moved to unit 6. That room was better, but the same smell was there, just less strong. I could see mould growing on the wallpaper beside the TV. The visible part in my pictures seems like just the tip of the iceberg, since a large area is damp and feels soft. Whoever owns the place should deal with this, as it can't be good for people's health. Even 180 km away, as I write this, I can still smell it from memory. The place also felt dirty in some areas, though not the kitchen, carpet, or bathroom. The windows, back of the TV, bedroom mirror, and little table by the sofa looked so dusty that they might not have been cleaned in months or years. At least units 2 and 6 need renovation. The town should close the place until that's done.

The room was nice and the price was great, with a wonderful location. The beach is just a short walk away, making it easy to swim at the nicest beach I've ever visited. I'll be back.
