Opononi Lighthouse Motel

Our studio was modern, clean and comfortable, and I can't fault the place. John was a wonderful host. We loved staying here and look forward to coming back. Highly, highly recommend!

We had a very enjoyable stay, and the close proximity to everything was handy. The beach is just across the road, with a few good places to eat, a 4 Square and a dairy close by. At Unit 12, we had our own spacious parking, a barbecue area on the left, a jacuzzi on the right, and lovely flower gardens. It was nice and quiet. A young man gave us a warm welcome. I asked whether there was a laundry area on the property, and he said yes. I expected two beds in the room, then realised I hadn't booked a twin room, but it was all good. The room and dinette area were absolutely clean, the kitchen facilities were great, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was immaculate. I also loved the Mirror Light. Thanks to the owners and staff. We'll consider coming back next time.

We stayed here on 15 jan 2026. The room had just been upgraded and was very clean. The beach is lovely and right across the road, and there are good shops within easy walking distance. The spa pool doesn't operate in summer, though, and the only lighthouse is the small model at the front of the motel.

There's an old school charm to this place, and we SO enjoyed being here. The staff were friendly, the service was great, and there were lovely touches in the rooms. The wifi in some rooms isn't great, but I'd definitely recommend staying.
